Mythenregion

Mythenregion
The Mythenregion lies in the Schwyz Prealps in Central Switzerland and comprises the sub-areas Brunni-Haggenegg, Brunni-Holzegg, Handgruobi, Illgau, Ibergeregg and Rotenflue. The area offers around 50 kilometres of pistes, plus the Mythenpark freestyle park, cross pistes, freeride terrain and the Skisafari circuit. The sunny, mostly fog-free slopes at the foot of the Mythen are considered especially family-friendly.

Families and Kids

Children are a priority in the Mythenregion. Free or low-cost magic carpets at the Rotenflue and Brunni-Haggenegg provide a gentle start, and the Kabi snow park at the Handgruobi ski lift lets the youngest practise weaving around figures with the Schwyzer Kantonalbank mascot. Beginner lifts such as Alpstubli Ibergeregg, Holzegg West and the first section of Brunni-Haggenegg are ideal for first turns, and the Schweizer Skischule Einsiedeln runs children's group courses.

Food and drinks

The Mythenregion has numerous mountain restaurants, huts and bars spread across its sub-areas, including the Berggasthaus Holzegg, Berggasthaus Rotenfluh, Restaurant Gipfelstubli on the Rotenflue, Pistenrestaurant Grossenboden, Schneebar Grossenboden, Schnapshütte, Hotel-Restaurant Brunni, Hotel Restaurant Passhöhe on the Ibergeregg and the Schlittelstübli Fryfang. Several restaurants serve children's menus, and the Gipfelstubli offers a family platter for two adults and one child.

FAQ

  • Is there a cheaper ticket for a half day or a late start?
Yes. A morning ticket valid until 13:00 is available, and from 11:00 the day ticket is reduced by CHF 3 per hour for adults and youths and CHF 2 for children.
  • Do children under 6 need a ticket?
Children up to 6 years ski free but still need a hand-free card. The date of birth determines the tariff group.
  • What is the Skisafari and how long does it take?
The Skisafari is a roughly 14-kilometre circuit from Illgau via St. Karl, Handgruobi and Oberiberg back to Illgau, with 1450 metres of vertical difference. It is a ski route rather than a prepared piste, partly ungroomed and without a final check in the evening, and takes about 3 hours. A round-trip ticket costs CHF 36 for adults and CHF 28 for children.
  • Where can I go sledging in the Mythenregion?
There are several sledging runs: a 4.5 km run from the Rotenflue top station to the Rätigs middle station, a 1.3 km run at the Handgruobi ski lift with night sledging on Friday and Saturday evenings, a 2.5 km run in Brunni-Haggenegg and a 2.3 km run from Illgau-St. Karl down to the village.
  • Are there ski and snowboard schools and rental shops in the area?
Yes. Several ski and snowboard schools offer group and private lessons for all levels, including PRIME Schwyz, Schweizer Skischule Einsiedeln, Schweizer Skischule Ibergeregg and Ri-Ski. Rental and test equipment is available from Prime Mountain Sports in Rickenbach and from Skitestcenter Meli Sport at Grossenboden.
  • What does the Mythenpark freestyle park offer?
The Mythenpark between Grossenboden and Brünnelistock is a south-facing freestyle park at 1400 m with 22 elements, 4 snow-making installations and a 500 m length on 1500 m². It caters to both professionals and beginners and hosts events such as the Mythen Style Session and the Mythen Kids Days. It is reached via the Rotenfluebahn or the Handgruobi ski lift.
