Champex-Lac
Champex-Lac is a ski area in the Pays du St-Bernard region of Valais, Switzerland, nicknamed "little Canada" for its large forests and lake that freezes in winter. The area ranges from 1,486 to 2,267 metres in altitude and offers 15 kilometres of downhill slopes served by four installations, with a long-standing tourist tradition of over a century.
Families and Kids
Children can start skiing on the beginner lifts at Champex-Lac, such as Le Revers and Petite Breya, and the Swiss Ski School of Champex-Lac offers ski, snowboard and cross-country lessons. From the summit of La Breya, families can enjoy a 6 km sledge run with 700 m of descent, recommended from age 6. The frozen lake also offers a natural ice rink when conditions allow.
Food and drinks
Champex-Lac has a gourmet restaurant, Au 1465, with views over the lake and mountains, as well as lakeside dining at Le Rendez-Vous on the shores of Lake Champex. Several hotels in the village, such as Hotel Mont-Lac and Au Vieux Champex, serve regional and traditional Swiss cuisine, including raclette. The lake is also known for its trout, which can be enjoyed on the lakeside terraces.
