Aletsch Arena

Aletsch Arena
The Aletsch Arena is a ski area at over 2,000 metres altitude in Valais with pistes around Riederalp, Bettmeralp and Fiescheralp. The car-free high plateau offers guaranteed snow from December to Easter, views of the Great Aletsch Glacier and the surrounding four-thousand-metre peaks, and ski-in/ski-out access directly from accommodation.

Families and Kids

The Aletsch Arena was voted Switzerland's most popular family ski resort in the Blick Winter Awards. Families with children have the Gletschi Family Funslope on Bettmeralp, and the Blätz sledging slope in Fieschertal and the Kapellenhang (Kindersonnenland) on Bettmeralp are well suited for small children. The "Ski for free" offer lets children under 16 ride free on Saturdays, and the third child rides free with a family ski pass.

Food and drinks

The resorts of Riederalp, Bettmeralp and Fiesch-Eggishorn offer a wide range of restaurants, bars and cafés, from Valais specialities to pizza and pasta. There are also après-ski and slope-side restaurants as well as special culinary experiences such as a moonlight meal with a torchlight descent from Bettmerhorn.

FAQ

  • Can I use my ski pass already on the day before its validity?
Yes. With "Upgrade your Ski Pass", a one-day or multi-day pass entitles you to use all cable car services in the Aletsch Arena from 15:00 on the day before its valid date until the end of the day, including night skiing. To use the feeder lifts from the valley, the pass must include the feeder lifts.
  • Is there a discount for families with several children?
Yes. When buying a family ski pass (1 to 14 days) or selective day ski passes, the pass for the third child and each additional child up to 15.99 years living in the same household is free of charge, regardless of whether one or both parents are present. The passes must cover the same period, and package deals are excluded.
  • Can parents who take turns looking after small children share one ski pass?
Yes. Parents with children under the age of 6 who take turns can use the same ski pass (1 to 14 days) alternately; the same applies to a parent with a babysitter. A joint ski pass with a photo of both persons is issued, and only one discount applies per family.
  • What is the Glacier Panorama Tour and how long does it take?
The Glacier Panorama Tour is a signposted circular ski circuit across the entire Aletsch Arena, about 35 km long with roughly 3,500 metres of ascent and descent. It leads four times to the View Points of the Aletsch Arena and is aimed at sporty skiers and snowboarders in good physical condition; it can be joined at any point, and for a one-day completion you should start by 10:00 at the latest.
  • What does the Aletsch Snowpark offer?
The 600-metre-long Aletsch Snowpark on Bettmeralp offers jumps, jibs, banked curves, a funtube, a flat post and a 130-metre halfpipe with an M-pipe height of up to 3 metres. It has S-Line and M-Line difficulty levels, is easily reached with the Schönbiel chairlift and is maintained by an on-site shape crew; families with children also have the Gletschi Family Funslope on Bettmeralp.
  • Which sledging runs are available in the Aletsch Arena?
Sledging options include the Moosfluh sledging run, the Blätz sledging slope and the Fiescheralp–Lax sledging descent of about 11 km, all classified as medium difficulty. The Blätz slope in Fieschertal and the Kapellenhang (Kindersonnenland) on Bettmeralp are well suited for small children; sledges can be hired from sports shops in Riederalp and from partners for the Fiescheralp–Lax run.
